Walking the Wodi-Wodi Track - Illawarra Escarpment |
|
The Wodi Wodi track located south of the Royal National Park is always an interesting bushwalk. Fallen trees can change the route. The rain can create very slippery surfaces to walk on and encourage the Leeches found in rain forest to raise their heads. Today was no exception. The weather forecast was overcast and NO rain. Bushwalkers soon learn to take that with a pinch of salt! It has been a number of years since we walked the Wodi Wodi Track and we certainly noticed some changes. The reinforcement work on the embankment above the railway tunnel and the wide track built to allow vehicle access to this work were very noticable. The route has also changed in places the cause being fallen trees which can make life very difficult for the bushwalkers. The railway station side of the creek bed had track making materials stored at strategic location obviously to repair or improve the track. This is good news because the track has deteriorated considerably making it unsafe. The Wodi Wodi track is always a good walk with much to grab ones attention particularly when linked up to the Forest Walk which we will do within the next few weeks. As can be seen from the photographs, it pays to use repellant properly to ward off the Leeches. Despite carrying them nobody was bitten. The Perch and Chips was superb at the Stanwell Park kiosk as usual |
