Box Vale Track - State Forest - Welby - Southern Highlands

Located in State Forest on the Old Hume Highway at Welby south of Mittagong, the Box Vale track was a narrow gauge tramway created to service a coal mine in Box Vale Creek in the Nattai River Gorge.

The tramway and its bridge are long gone but the cuttings, embankments and tunnel still remain. Mother nature has taken over but much modified the embankments and cuttings creating a gentle walk of 9 kilometre's

Ideal for the beginner with no hills to speak of. The Box Vale Track makes an excellent evening walk by torchlight which creates the opportunity to see Wombats, Kangaroo's and Possums.

The walk is a superb 9 km return with the opportunity to branch off into other areas for technically more challenging or to simply increase distance.
